Remembrance

The gunshots echo through the crowded hangar
As I whisper a silent prayer
The coffins stand in silence
But if you listen closely
You can hear the stories
Of soldiers that came before me
The fathers that left home
Never to see their children grow old
The sons that left their parents
Hoping to seek out new adventures
The daughters and the mothers
Fighting to protect their loved one
After years of waiting
These sons and daughters return home
To give their grieving families peace
They gave their lives so I could live in freedom
A tear rolls down my cheek
As I salute those who gave their lives
I ask for you to do the same
Because of them you're free
